En resa längs ensamma monotona motorvägar, det är natt och samma sträcka tycks återupprepa sig i det oändlig, mil efter mil. En välbekant och välkommen skylt blir synlig: Nattöppet!
Kör av från motorvägen upp mot bensinstationen som lyser likt ett rymdskepp i det mörka och ödsliga landskapet. Kör av och går in, möts av ljuset och färgerna, någon att prata med över en kopp kaffe en regnig natt, en oas av mänsklig närvaro i en ödslig infrastruktur. Genom att skala bort färgerna och lämna butiken tömd på innehåll byter jag löftet om en stunds sällskap mot en ännu större avsaknad. Den tomma vita butiken lyser tillsammans med neonskyltar utan budskap och motorvägen fortsätter, oändligt vidare bort.
A journey along lonely monotonous highways, it`s night and the same stretch of the road seems to be repeated endlessly, mile after mile. A familiar and welcome sign reveal: Open 24hrs!
Turn off the highway towards the petrol station which glares like a space-ship in the dark and dessert landscape. Turn off and walk inside, met by the light and the colours and someone to have a word with over a cup of coffee in a rainy night, an oasis of human presence in a desolate infrastructure. By removing the colour and allowing the shop to stand without content I replace the promise of company with an even greater isolation. The empty, white shop is shining together with neon-signs without message and the road continues endlessly.
